A R Rahman made it again at the Los Angeles Grammy Awards. Even this time he scored a couple. The Indian music maestro won two Grammy Awards for his music in ‘Slumdog Millionaire.’

Lata Mangeshkar Wins Akkineni Award

Renowned singer Lata Mangeshkar has been awarded the Akkineni Award for the year 2009. Akkineni Nageswara Rao himself announced her name in the press meet held on Monday. Speaking to the media Nageswara Rao said “Through our Akkineni International Foundation we felicitate those who provide best services to the Indian Cinema. And for the year 2009, we had selected Lata Mangeshkar.

The award will be presented in a function a special occasion on February 1. We are very happy to honour Lataji, one of the best-known playback singers in the Hindi film industry. She had served the industry with her voice for over 40 years. Honorable Chief Minister of the State, K Rosaiah and Central Minister Vilas Rao Deshmukh will be the chief guests for the occasion.”

Nandi Awards for the year 2008 Announced - Gamyam Bags Best Film Award

The state governments on Saturday (24 October, 2009) announced Nandi Awards for the year 2008. “Gamyam,” directed by Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi bagged the best film award, while “Vinayakudu” and “Parugu” won the second and the third best film awards respectively.

Ravi Teja won best actor award for his role in the movie “Neninte” and Swathi (Colours) bagged the best actress award for “Ashta Chamma.”

Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi (Krish) won the best director award for the movie “Gamyam.”

A committee comprising of 14 members headed by Tammareddy Bharadwaja has adjudicated the awards . Awards have been announced for 65 categories. The final list has been handed over the chief Minister Rosaiah today.

Nandi Awards for the year 2008 will be presented in the first week of December.
